BT Senator Control Unit

General Information

The British Telecom BT Ambassador and British Telecom (BT) Senator systems were first installed in Britain in the early 1980s. Designed for small to medium sized applications they were very popular systems. The British Telecom (BT) Senator system CCU (central control unit) will expand to 5 lines (analogue) 10 extensions. They are economical systems ideal if you're just starting a business or you're on a tight budget and they will give you a professional phone system at bargain price.

The British Telecom (BT) Ambassador is a smaller system that uses the same telephone handsets as the British Telecom (BT) Senator. The BT Ambassador has two versions, the 1 line 3 extension unit and more the common 2 + 4 version. The British Telecom (BT) Ambassador is a favourite in small branch offices like estate agents, insurance brokers dental practices etc.

Dennis's Trade Tip: To get your Ambassador or Senator extension to ring on incoming external calls carry out the following simple procedure. With your handset down press and hold down the HOLD button. The external line lights will light up if your extension is set to ring on that line. If it does not light up then press the line button. It will now light up and is set to ring on that line. Repeat this procedure for all lines. When finished release the HOLD button. Reverse the procedure to stop ringing.

Be careful when ordering new telephone handsets for the BT Senator as it's the system that dictates whether you use tone (MF) dialing or LD (pulse) as this is designated by the type of intercom card fitted in the central control unit (CCU). If you have an LD intercom card fitted you will not be able to switch your telephone to tone dialing because although it may work when dialing outside calls the intercom facility will not work and you will not be able to transfer calls. If you're still scratching your head please E-mail me and I'll help.
